Asus Eee Pad MeMo benchmarks come out fighting, other slates take note (video)
The ASUS Eee Pad MeMo ME171 has finally hit the streets here in Taiwan and it comes sporting a Qualcomm 8260 1.2GHz processor and a Bluetooth handset featuring a transparent display. There are actually two versions of the MeMo the Qualcomm version we have here that is aimed at the Asian market and the 370T which comes with Tegra 3 processor. The Nvidia version is the one making all the waves since it is rumored to be retailing for $250. The MeMo ME171 is dramatically more expensive at 17,500NT or $585 USD, we will say that tablets are always a little more expensive here versus the US because Taiwan is such a smaller market, even if it is all made over here.
Under the hood we’ve got a 1.2GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of flash memory, it also has a front facing camera that offers 1.2MP & a 5MP rear facing camera that is capable of 1080p recording (in case you’re wondering the Tegra 3 edition get a 8MP rear cam). ASUS claims that the ME171 will be able to achieve 8.5Hr of video playback on its 4400mAH battery, we’ll be sure to put that to the test in our full review. Currently it’s running Android 3.2 but it will be running Android 4.0, you’ll notice in the video we think that it’s running ICS until we check out the settings, the sales clerk was especially insistent that it was running Android 4.0, so we hope that we’ll be seeing it soon.
