Novero Introduces Solana, the Laptop/Tablet Hybrid at MWC 2012 (8 pics)
As interesting as a laptop-tablet hybrid presentation might sound, that might not even be the most intriguing part about the Novero Solana, unveiled today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. That distinction might go to the other hybrid aspect of the Solana – users can switch between Windows 7 and Android for business and pleasure, respectively. For those concerned, the Solana will be compatible with Windows 8 when that operating system becomes available.
The Solana is a 10” laptop that can be converted into a tablet by flipping the display around old-school blackboard style and folding the monitor against the back of the keyboard. Looking at the design, it appears that you might have to hold the device in an awkward way to avoid touching the keys on that keyboard while using the Solana in tablet mode. The device is HSPA+, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth compatible, and runs on an Intel dual-core Atom N2600 Cedar Trail processor. It has 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, with a solid state drive of up to 128 GB. The Solana is HDMI compatible, and the touch-screen is multi-touch and gesture friendly.
The whole package weighs 1.3 kg (about 3 lbs) and features two USB ports and slots for a SIM card and a Micro SD card. The presentation is very sleek, and looks stylish, though what appears to be an exposed keyboard in tablet mode is at least cause for concern. The Solana is expected to arrive at the beginning of Q2, and a 64 GB model should sell for about $700.
